GUWAHATI, Feb 4: Accusing Union Minister of State for Skill Development Rajiv Pratap Rudy of hijacking a scheme initiated by the State government, former Industrial minister of the State Pradyut Bordoloi on Thursday slammed the BJP.

Bordoloi was addressing a press conference to counter Rajiv Pratap Rudy’s claim of initiating a new scheme to set up ITIs in each block to generate employment for the local youths.

“It was our idea and we (the State government) submitted a proposal to the Union government for the same. Now they are hijacking our idea and trying to project that the BJP is giving it to Assam,” Bordoloi said.

The congress leader added, “When the Modi government came to power, I was the Industrial minister of Assam. On August 13, 2014, I called on then Union Minister of State for Skill Development Sarbanda Sonowal and submitted a proposal for ‘Multi Discipliry Skill Development Programme’ in each block. Sarbanda Sonowal never responded to it. Now after one and a half years, Rajiv Pratap Rudy came to the State and just ahead of the election to gain political mileage, he announced a project submitted by us as a project initiated by them. The only difference is the me- ours was MDSDP, they have med it ITI.” He further stated that as per a survey carried out by the State government, around 5 lakhs youths of the State are working as security guards outside the State. But, as they are not properly trained they are working at a very low salary.
