Safai panel member visits Guwahati Railway Station

GUWAHATI, Dec 2: tiol Commission for Safaiwalas member Vijay Kumar has asked the administration in the Guwahati Railway Station to supply necessary kits like caps, gloves, masks, gumboots etc., to the safaiwalas within 15 days, and report it to the Commission. Kumar visited the Guwahati Railway station today and found the safaiwalas without caps, gloves, masks, gumboots etc. He also inspected the railway tracks, station latrines, washrooms, etc., besides hearing the woes of the safaiwalas. He also held a meeting with the station administration and found that the number of safaiwalas, both of the Railways and private ones, is very low. He asked the authorities concerned to increase the strength of safailawas, besides making dress changing rooms, washrooms etc., available for the safai workers. There are as many as 413 posts of safaiwalas vacant in NF Railway, the last recruitment of safailwas was in 1997. In his meeting with the safaiwalas, Kumar asked them  to be aware of various schemes meant to benefit them have been launched by the Centre. “There’re education loans for your wards, business loans etc., for you. You should know all such schemes and try to avail their benefits,” Kumar said, and asked the railway administration to help the safalwalas get benefits under  the Indira Awas Yoja and the Ambedkar Awas Yoja.  Additiol GM Dayand Jha and DRM Niraj Kumar were present at the meeting. They told Kumar the reasons behind the present condition at the station.
