Guwahati, April 12 : In memory of the greatest Assamese literary icon, Sahityarathi Lakshmith Bezbarua, Assam Jatiya Bidyalay, Noonmati today celebrated ‘Sahitya Divas’ in its school campus.
The literary festival began with the garlanding of the portrait of the legend and lighting diya in front of it by rendra Mohan Goswami, Academic Officer of the school. After the welcome address by vice principal Udaya Phukan, the significance of the occasion was conveyed to the audience by Pankaj Dutta, HoD, department of the science. The Chief Guest at the event was noted linguist and educationist Prof Bishweshwar Hazarika. In his speech, he paid tributes to Lakshmith Bezbarua and others who played a pivotal role during the crisis period of Assamese literature. A literary competition on all Assam basis was organised by the school and on the occasion of the ‘Sahitya Divas’ today and the winners were awarded. An exhibition on a few intertiolly famous books was also held. This has been stated in après release.
