GUWAHATI, August 6: The BJP Assam Pradesh has said that the Congress has the tradition of showing great persolities, barring those belonging to the Nehru family, in a bad light.

In a statement issued to the press on Sunday, State BJP spokesperson Aparajita Bhuyan said: “The Congress championed in politics of appeasement and divide and rule among various ethnic groups for the past 60 years. They know none other than those belonging to the Nehru family. The Leader of Opposition in Assam Legislative Assembly Debabrata Saikia has no knowledge on Pandit Deendayal Upadhayay. Deendayal was one who sacrificed for unity and integrity of India, built cultural bridges among various communities, took the pledge of all-round development of Dalits and neglected ones in the country. He dreamt one-India from Kashmir to Konyakumar and Aruchal Pradesh to Gujarat. He was a follower of Sadar Bhallab Bhai Patel. When the Congress deviated from Gandhiji’s dream of Ram Rajya, he had to form Ja Sangh. Saikia has belittled the sacrifice of such a person.”

Reacting to Saikia’s projected State persolities after whom the model colleges in the State could have been be med, the BJP questioned: “Why didn’t the Congress me Jalukbari Chowk in Guwahati after any of those State leaders, instead of ming it Rajiv Gandhi Chowk?”

Meanwhile, the law and justice department of the BJP held an important meeting at the party headquarters where the conveners and assistant conveners of the 25 party districts, besides the office-bearers of the State committee, were present. Chief Minister's legal adviser Shantanu Bharali, who was present at the meeting, gave a detailed talk on the duty and responsibilities of advocates. He appealed to all public prosecutors to adopt utmost caution while fighting cases on behalf of the government.

State BJP president Ranjit Kumar Dass was also present at the meeting. He said: “Law and Justice is an important department of the BJP. This department plays an important role in taking the party ahead.”
