GUWAHATI, Dec 6: Anundoram Borooah Award, 2015 was given away to Dr. gen Saikia at a function presided over by State Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today.

The award instituted by Anundoram Borooah Bhasha Kala Sanskriti Sanstha, Asom is given away since 1991. Dr Pratapjyoti Mahanta of Tezpur University spoke on the works and profile of Dr. Saikia.

Dr. Saikia said: "I can express my all thoughts through my mother tongue. Teachers also can also teach their students in a simple and lucid language only in mother tongue. If anybody wants to know the origin of the Assamese language one has to know Sanskrit. On the research of tatva (principle) and rasa (aesthetics) Indian universities rely on western philosophy even though they are very much there in Indian philosophy as they occur in Sanskrit literature."

The award carries a cheque, a citation, a xorai and a bunch of books. The Anundoram Borooah Bhasha Kala Sanskriti Sanstha has appealed to the Education Minister to a change in the Anundoram Borooah Awards being given to students so as to distinguish it from the literary Award.
