GUWAHATI, June 6: The Sadou Asam Karmachari Parishad (SAKP) has raised its demand for revised pay from January 1,  2016 as announced by the Central Government for its employees.

In a statement issued to the press today, SAKP president Basab Chandra Kalita said: "We did meet Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on December 31, 2014 and requested him to form the 7th Pay Commission. The Chief Minister assured us of forming the 7th Pay Commission. He has formed the commission, but we have not been assured as yet if the State government will pay us the revised pay from January 1, 2016 as announced by the Central Government for its employees."

Kalita further said: "The Chief Minister also formed a high-power committee with the Chief Secretary as its chairman for free of cost health services to the State Government employees and pensioners. We are, however, not satisfied with the progress of work towards that end. We want the work of the committee be sped up."

Meanwhile, in order to hold discussion on its various demands, including the revised pay from January 1, 2016 and solution to problems afflicting workers and teachers in the State, the SAKP is going to hold its central executive meeting at Sivasagar on June 21.
