GUWAHATI, March 22: Bherbheri and Sildubi residents in South Kamrup have got proper sanitation, potable water and solar power – all in one go. The credit for this goes to Rashtriya Gramin Vikas Nidhi (RGVN) that has implemented the project funded by IFCI Ltd. Over 900 euphoric people of the two villages under Chhaygaon Block, Dakhin Pantan Panchayat in Kamrup district were present in the ceremony to hand over the facilities – sanitation in every household, solar- powered filtered water supply and solar lighting facilities – today.  RGVN has provided 334 sanitary toilets to all households and community centre and solar powered filtered water supply systems and solar rooftop systems for lights, fans and streetlights in the schools of Bherbari and Sildubi villages. RGVN has earlier launched such a drive in Bonkukurajan, Nijarapar and Burha Mayong villages in Morigaon district.  It claims that these villages are free of open defecation. Kamrup Development Commissioner Esther Kathar also spoke on the occasion. He said that the facilities provided today needed proper upkeep like the battery used has to be charged. “The water filters being used should also be cleaned from time to time. It will help keep the area clean,” she said.
