GUWAHATI, August 23: With resounding am Prasanga accompanied by the clanging of Bortaal, devotees recalled the 15th century saint Srimanta Sankardeva on his 448th death anniversary in the State.

am Prasanga started off at all amghars and xatras  around 8 am. Retaining their tradition Barpeta Xatra, Bordua Xatra, xatras in Majuli, Chandan gar amghar, Tangara Xatra, Aathkhilia amghar, Roopgar amghar, Jilika amghar etc. in the city attracted footfall of around a thousand devotees clad in white. Ceremonial lamp was lit before the Seat of the Mentor (Guru akhon) and the Holy Throne (Xinghaxan) before am prasanga proceedings.

The baaps (amghar in-charges) took the lead of am prasanga proceedings by reading the verses from Kirtan Ghoxa (holy epic composed by Srimanta Sankardev), followed by devotees for 3-4 hours.

The daylong observation came to an end with accompanied singing of verses of prayers glorifying God from am Ghosa (Vaishvite verses composed by saint Madhavdev praising Lord Krish).

Some of the amghars and xatras have scheduled Bhagavat Paath towards the evening.
