Sankardev recalled

GUWAHATI, Sept 30: The 569th birth anniversary of Srimanta Sankadeva was celebrated all over Assam on Saturday.   Some prominent places where the day is observed amidst diverse programmes are Batadrava Than, the birth place of the mentor, Xatra gari at Mjuli, Barpeta Xatra, Dhekia-Khowa amghar, Jagoriad, lbari, Morigaon, Jorhat, Tezour etc. Horiam, accompanied by staccato of gara and the oompah bortaal rent the air in various xatras and amdgars in the State.  In Guwahati city, many amghars also observed the day with religious fervor. There were also processions on the occasion. In some places in the State the occasion was observed with two-day long functions.
