Santaap highlights plight of eunuchs

GUWAHATI March 16: The Madhavdev Intertiol Auditorium at Srimanta Sankaradev Kalakshetra in Guwahati saw the staging of Santaap by director Sandip Bhattacharya. 
The Bengali play focuses on the plight of the eunuchs who are born in the regular human society, but are prohibited to be reared by that. How a defect by birth seizes them from their mother’s lap, family life – deports them from love, sympathy and compassion forever.
Well known dancer and choreographer, Padmashree Nrityacharya Jatin Goswami,  graced the Master Class series on Friday. “I’m overwhelmed that Guwahati is a co-host to the Theatre Olympics. This is a golden opportunity for theatre lovers as an event of such magnitude is being organized in the city,” he said. On Saturday, the Theatre Olympics will see the bilingual performance of Antigone by director Rajan Khatiwada in Hindi and English. It is one of the world-renowned tragedies by the ancient Greek playwright Sophocles. The play deals with the theme of civil disobedience, fidelity and human wisdom. 
The Guwahati chapter of Theatre Olympics 2018 is organized by tiol School of Drama (NSD) under the aegis of the Union Ministry of Culture, and in collaboration with the Government of Assam. The Guwahati edition of the festival will conclude on March 25, 2018. 
Guwahati is one of the co-hosts for the 8th Theatre Olympics which is being held for the first time in India.
