SARAS Fair 2017 at Guwahati

 GUWAHATI, Dec 11: Minister of Panchayat and Rural Development ba Kumar Doley iugurated the SARAS Fair on Monday at the Ganesh Mandir Indoor Stadium Field, Khapara, Guwahati. It is being organized by the Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission, Assam. 

The Minister, while delivering his iugural speech, said that the event would provide a platform to the rural artisans to showcase their skills and products. He hoped that the Fair would not only display the products of the rural artisans and craftsmen but would also eble them to interact and learn from the other participants from different states. The minister also flagged off a mobile awareness campaign med ‘Awareness on Wheels’ during the iugural session.
SARAS Fair initiative is to market rural products thereby providing an opportunity for income generation to the rural artisans. The scheme med as Sale of Articles of Rural Artisans Society (SARAS) Fair’s objective is to create awareness about rural products among the urban population and to develop new business opportunities for the rural artisans/ SHGs. The Fair has about 100 stalls across 17 States starting from 11th to 22nd December, 2017 and is expected to attract crowd and buyers. Commissioner and Secretary Dr. JB Ekka, Director SIPRD AMM Zakir, Director, NIRD & PR, Northeast Regiol Centre RM Pant, State Mission Director ndita Hazarika and other dignitaries were present in the iugural session. 
The twelve-day event will not only display and sales of Handloom and handicraft items but will have interactive sessions and workshops related to entrepreneurship Development, skilling of youth, leadership building, health and nutrition of women and children and scientific methods of livestock magement. Cultural programmes will also be held during the Fair.
