GUWAHATI, June 19: An SC body has dropped a broad hint that the State is set to be ravaged by a storm, leading to fratricidal killings and demographic change, in the event of according ST status to the six ethnic groups.
Talking to newsmen in the city today, AAJYCS secretary Nityanda Das said: “The SCs in the State have been getting only two of the seven per cent reservation meant for them. The remaining five per cent is being availed by non-SC candidates, depriving us. Non-SC candidates are getting SC certificates through fraudulent means and take seats of SC quota in admission into medical colleges, engineering colleges, and various government posts. In 1994, the Supreme Court of India asked the government to form state-level committee for scrutiny in the issuance of caste certificates. Since then Dispur witnessed successive governments of the Congress, the AGP and one year of the BJP. However, the directive from the Apex Court is yet to be implemented.”
