Science Week observed

GUWAHATI, March 2: The Science Week-cum-Science Day was celebrated recently in the Department of Biotechnology, Gauhati University, through a three-day day programme the Gauhati University Biotech Forum (GUBF) under the patroge of Prof. Rupjyoti Bharali. The programme comprised a three-day hands-on-training programme on Molecular Biology and Molecular Medicine for college teachers, school teachers, medical faculties, research scholars, college students and others under expert coordition of Dr. Sujoy Bose, assistant professor, Department of Biotechnology, Gauhati University and Dr. SAl Choudhury, in-charge Institutiol Biotech Hub, Dimoria College. The training programme also had open public scientific talks on Genomics, nomedicine, structural biology and Bioinformatics by experts. Model display, debate, painting, photography, quiz competition etc., for school, college, institutions, university students and common public were also part of the programme. There were talks by eminent persolities, including chief guest Padmashree Lakhimi ndan Bora, renowned veteririan Prof. Probodh Bora, Rector and Vice-Chancellor in-charge of Gauhati University, Prof. HP Sarma and others.  Prof. Probodh Bora apprised the contribution of science for common man. He pointed out the existing disparity in scientific development in Northeast India compared to other privileged areas in India because of disparity in infrastructure, manpower and capacity development. He also pointed out some lapses in science education.
