Search intensified on I-Day

DIMORIA, August 14: Security personnel have been carrying out a search operation in the Sopur area so as to b miscreants, if any of them are hiding there, on the eve of the 70th Independence Day.

At Digaru Gate on NH-37 near Sopur, CRPF personnel were checking all Guwahati-bound vehicles from Upper Assam. CRPF's 128th CRPF Battalion assistant commandant Anuruddha Pratap said: "This checking is to prevent untoward incidents by militants in the run-up or during I-Day celebrations. The vigil will continue even after Independence Day celebrations."

Sopur police have also been keeping a close watch on vehicular traffic on NH-37.   

The Police personnel, on the other hand, have been checking all vehicles to and from Meghalaya at Byrnihat where a 36-hour bandh has been called from 5 am today.  

Byrnihat PS in-charge D Nongrum said that the NH-40 has been under close watch due to the bandh called in Meghalaya.
