GUWAHATI, Dec 15: A spoken English audio CD prepared by the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) for the students of Classes IX and X was formally released by SEBA chairman Dhandev Mahanta at a function on the premises of the Board recently.

While founder editor of The Sentinel DN Bezboruah was the chief guest at the function, former SEBA chairman Prof. TR Taid and Prof. Ranjit Kumar Choudhury were the guests of honour.

The audio CD was developed under Spoken English Audio CD Development Project, SEBA. Prof. T.R. Taid was involved in the project as its director, Harirayan Das as associate director, while other participants were veteran jourlist DN Bezboruah, Prof. Ranjit Kumar Choudhury, Dr. Padmini Bhuyan (Baruah), S Dowerah, Kaberi Choudury, Arunima Debi, Dr. Tarun Tamuli, Binita Barman Dutta, Nipa Das, Aparajita Dutta, Binoy B Gogoi, and some students from TC Government Girls’ HS & MP School, Assam Jatiya Bidyalaya (Noonmati), Don Bosco School (Panbazar), and St. Mary’s HS School, Guwahati.

Mention may be made here that a textbook titled ‘Spoken English Practice Book for Secondary Level Students (Classes IX & X)’ has already been prepared to be introduced from the next academic session 2016. The Spoken English audio CD is the audio version of the said book. Both the book and the CD will go together.

The preparation and introduction of the new textbook and the audio CD has fulfilled a long felt need of the learners as Oral English or Spoken English has been a compulsory part of the English subject course for classes IX & X since 2009, SEBA sources said. Earlier, Taid and Bezboruah dwelt on different aspects of teaching and learning spoken English. The teachers, students and others present at the function were greatly benefitted from the resourceful speeches.
