Seize all unfit mechanized boats: Ajmal

 By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 21: AIUDF president and Dhubri MP Badruddin Ajmal has raised the demand for immediate seizure of all old machine boats not fit to be sailed in various parghats in the State so as to avoid accidents. He has also demanded that the State Government should introduce some fleets of new and state-of-the-art mechanized boats in the State.
The statement from the MP came close on the heels of a boat mishap that had taken place at Bagbor Dolagaon Sar in Barpeta district on Sunday. “There were many such incidents earlier as well. However, the government has not taken any steps to regulate the old mechanized boats that are simply not fit to ferry passengers. The government falls short of ensuring if such private mechanized boats adhere to safe measures like lifejackets, etc., or not. In every district in the State there are many boats that ferry passengers without followings safety norms they are supposed to. Overloading of passengers and goods is another bane that leads to such accidents,” he said.
