Self-defense camp for girls

GUWAHATI, July 1: The North East Girl Students’ Association (NEGSA), with support from the Assam Judu Association, started a self-defense train camp for girls at the Judu Hall at Nehru Stadium in the city today. The camp will continue for seven days. The camp was started following a spurt in crimes against women in the State. Around 200 girl students from Cotton University, Handique Girls’ College, Gauhati Commerce College, Pandu College, Lalit Chandra Bharali College, West Guwahati Commerce College and other institutes are taking part in the camp. NEGSA president Munmi Dutta said in her welcome address that crimes against women were on the rise in the State. Students and working women had to face atrocities in their way to colleges and offices and back, she said, and added: “This camp is aimed at making such women able to defend themselves.” Jourlist Pray Bordoloi iugurated the camp in the presence of Gauhati Commerce College Professor Mashi Bhattcharya.
