Semir on landslides and riverbank erosion underway

GUWAHATI, Dec 12: Assam Down Town University (ADTU) organized a two-day intertiol semir on ‘Landslides & Riverbank Erosion’ on Tuesday. The semir is going to conclude on December 13.

Experts from the USA, Japan, Chi, Vietm, Uzbekistan etc., deliberated in the semir. Prof. Arvind Phukan from the USA attended the semir as a keynote speaker and highlighted some points to better understand the problem for a scope to adapt modern technologies in the context of Assam.  Prof. Hemanta Hazarika from Japan, Dr. Xinghui Huang from Chi, Din Dat from Vietm, Andrew Krutikov and other resource persons from other countries were also present in the semir and threw some light from an engineering point of view.

Local MIA Atul Bora, as the guest of honour at the semir, spoke on the possibilities of finding local solutions to such problems. Dr N.N. Dutta hoped that some sort of the solution would emerge to these recurring problems and requested the media to create awareness among people and present the finding before the people on the seat of power. Former GU VC Prof. Amarjyoti Choudhury highlighted the importance of finding out solutions to the problems of these magnitudes.
