GUWAHATI, Oct 4: The Assam Mahila Parishad (AMP) today conducted a semir on 'Regiolism in the Interest of Assam and the Role of Women in it' at the AGP head office at Ambari today. The semir, presided over by AMP's city committee president Lila Baishya, was attended by around 300 women.
Senior jourlist Haidar Hussain, who was also present at the semir, said: "Regiolism still has its relevance in Assam, and as such the women too have a role to strengthen regiolism." Another jourlist Adip Phukan said: "Women have a responsibility to strengthen regiolism in Assam. Women did play a role in the Independence struggle of India, and now it has a responsibility of regiolism in Assam."
Noted writer Arupa Baruah said: "Women should also come forward to ensure the development of Assam, and the AMP should also shoulder its responsibility. The semir that was iugurated by AGP general secretary Durga Das Boro was also attended, among others, by advocate Junumoni Devi Khound, AGP leaders Biraj Kumar Sarma, RN Kalita, Rekharani Das Boro, Manoj Saikia and AMP general secretary Baroda Kalita.
