Sensation over killing of girl yet to die down

GUWAHATI, March 19: The sensation in the Noonmati Sector 1 area in Guwahati has refused to die down with the police not being able to arrest the culprits who killed a 22-year-old girl at Segun Bagan on Thursday last. The Noonmati unit of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), in association with Brihattar Noonmati ri Niryatan Birodhi Aikya Mancha, Noonmati Bihu Sanmilan, Noonmati Xahitya Xabha, Seuji Mahila Sora, Pubanchal Moitri Development Society, Pub-Guwahati Bhoomi Sanskar Samiti and others and local people staged a three-hour dhar near the Main Gate of Guwahati Refinery today. They raised the demand for immediate arrest of the culprits and exemplary punishment to them, besides ensuring security to the life and property of students and others in the area. They sent a memorandum in this regard to the City Police Commissioner. The body of the girl had been recovered from Segun Bagan in the Noonmati Sector-I area on Thursday. The 22-year-old victim was identified as a resident of the Indrapur area of Sector-I. She had been missing since March 15. The victim, a 6th Semester student of Abhigyan Degree College, was also working at a private company in the city.
