Slogans against 'killing' of girl rend air

GUWAHATI, Dec 5: The untural death of a meritorious girl in suspected love-hate affairs in Guwahati on Monday night made the city air rent with slogans on Tuesday.

Sweta Agarwal, a topper in HS fil (Commerce) examition in 2015, hailed from Manipuri Basti, Guwahati. Her charred body was found by police personnel from the bathroom of the rented house of her boyfriend, Govind Singhal, at JP Agarwala Path, Santipur in the city on Monday night. She was a TDC fifth semester student of KC Das Commerce College, Guwahati. The family of Govind Singal hailed from Jaipur. The police arrested Govind on Monday and filed a case (805/17 under section 302/376/120(B)/34 IPC) against him. His mother Kamala Devi and sister Bhabani Singhal were arrested by the police on Tuesday.

According to police sources, Sweta and Govind were under CA coaching together. Sweta visited the house of Govind after her examition on Monday, the police said, and added: “It might be a kill-and-burn case so as to erase injury marks the body might have borne.”

The family members of Sweta, on the other hand, said that Sweta had been kidpped and killed. They also alleged that Govind had all along been harassing Sweta.

The students of KC Das Commerce College demonstrated in front of Bharalumukh police station demanding punishment to the guilty. The residents of Manipuri Basti also registered their protest against the killing.
