GUWAHATI, Sept 15: The members of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) staged protest all over the State in protest against the Sarbanda Sonowal-led BJP government’s failure in arresting rise in prices of essential commodities. The AASU members also chanted slogans against the present State government.

AASU president Dipanka Kumar th and its general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi, in a press statement issued here on Thursday, said, “Before it comes to power at Dispur, the BJP had promised to reduce prices of essential items, now skyrocketing in the State, but failed to do so. The faith of the common people in the new State government has also been destroyed by its failure in checking soaring prices of essential items.”

The students’ body further said abolishment of check gates should have a positive impact on controlling prices of essential items, but the results have not yet been seen on the ground. “The government must rein in black marketeers to keep the prices of essential items under control,” added the statement.

The AASU warned that if the government fails to keep rising prices of essential items under control, more vigorous protests would be undertaken by the students’ body soon.
