Solve water-logging scientifically: AGSU

By our Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, June 23: The All Guwahati Students’ Union (AGSU) demonstrated at Dighalipukhuripar in the city today on water-logging – protesting government’s failure to tackle it and demanding a scientific approach to solve it.
In a statement sent to the press today, AGSU president Rajmil Ali and general secretary Raif Uddin Ahmed said: “Guwahati city is without any guardian. The authorities in the city have been just passing the buck on one another. The moot question is: the onus of looking after the interests of Guwahatians lies with whom? It is the GMC, GMDA, Kamrup (M) district administration, PWD, Water Resources Department, Forest Department or the ASEB? What steps have Dispur, which assured the people of the State of making Guwahati a smart city, taken so far? Is garbage disposal the only duty of the GMC?  None of these authorities is sincere to solve people’s problems. This is not all. The departments, agencies and the administration don’t have any coordition among them. What we want to get across is crystal clear – the citizens of the city have to face untold suffering due to failure on the part of the government that keeps on spelling the slogan of ‘change’. What we demand is that Dispur should work on a war footing to solve the problem of water-logging in the city once and for all, failing which Dispur should be ready to face a vigorous agitation.”
