GUWAHATI, Dec 9: The bring-the-killer-to-justice cry of Baneswar Das, the father of a murdered student, sees no end.

Hriday Das, a class XII (Science) student was brutally murdered on May 23, 2015. An FIR, with the mes of some suspects, was lodged in Hajo Police Station on May 24, 2015. The investigating officer, what the court order said, washed his hands off the case just by coming to the conclusion purely based on the post-mortem report.

In a press release, Baneswar Das said that during the investigation the police did seize some wearing of Hriday Das – a short, a sporting, a pair of chappal, etc., from the compound of Sabita Das, the mother of Biki Das whose body was also found along with that of Hriday. The bicycle of Hriday was also found near the river bank by the local people.

Another FIR was also lodged on June 6, 2015 against the same suspects and a case (U/07/15) in Hajo police station. However, as Baneswar Das said, the police did nothing other than fishing out the headless body of Hriday Das which was tied back-to-back with the body of Biki Das from the Kalajal river. Baneswar Das could identify the headless body of his son by seeing his legs.

Many organizations like Kulhati Mahila Samiti and Damdama Anchalik Students’ Union raised their demands for the immediate arrest of the culprits, but to no avail.

The poor father did move the court seeking justice. The court did punch holes on role of the investigating officer who, barring the content of the post-mortem report, failed to glean anything that could unearth the truth. The investigating officer came to his conclusion only with the post-mortem report, the court said, and directed the OC of Hajor police station to initiate further investigation into the case.
