Sonitpur school cooks cry for justice

By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, August 19: The Sonitpur District School Cook Santha (SDSCS) has alleged that the cooks are misused by the school authorities of the district, and as such they have demanded regularization of their posts as soon as possible.

SDSCS general secretary Jatin Borah said this in a press conference in Guwahati Press Club today. Borah said: "We have been serving the schools since 2005 at the wage of Rs 1,000 per month, whereas our counterparts in other states get over Rs 3,000 a month. We are also not paid on a regular basis. The teachers involve us in sweeping works, which is not proper. We, therefore, demand hike in our wage, regularization of our jobs, end to the practice of engaging us for sweeping and the deposit of our wages in our persol accounts."
