Sonowal attends swearing-in of idu

GUWAHATI, Aug 11: State Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal attended the swearing-in ceremony of Muppavarapu Venkaiah idu as the 13th Vice President of India at the Durbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi on Friday.

idu was administered the oath of office by President of India Ram th Kovind. Minutes after the swearing-in, Sonowal congratulated idu on his assumption of office as the new Vice President of India.

Extending his warm greetings for an eventful and fruitful tenure, Sonowal exuded the optimism that with idu assuming the office of Vice-President, the edifice of democracy would be further strengthened and the tion-building process would get a major boost. The Chief Minister also hoped that the country would immensely benefit from idu’s vast experience of public life and in-depth knowledge of parliamentary rules and regulations.

“His repertoire of knowledge and understanding of the Constitution will immensely benefit the tion in the days ahead”, Sonowal quipped.

Sonowal also recounted idu’s relentless service to the society through strong advocacy of the rights of the weaker section of the society and said that Assam and the Northeast would find a strong voice in him for highlighting the issues of the region at different fora.

Lauding idu’s eventful tenure as Union Minister for Urban Development, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, and Information and Broadcasting, Sonowal said, “iduji had always kept the Northeast at the forefront of his initiatives, and as Vice President he will continue to keep the region close to his heart in expediting its journey towards growth and development.”
