Sonowal bids farewell to Purohit

GUWAHATI, Oct 5: Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal on Thursday bade farewell to Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit who has been appointed as Governor of Tamil du.

Banwarilal Purohit who was appointed as the Governor of Assam and assumed charge on August 22 last year has been appointed as the Governor of Tamil du by President Ramth Kovind on September 30.

After serving as the Governor of Assam for more than one year Purohit on Thursday departed for Tamil du to take over his new assignment. Chief Minister Sonowal bade farewell to him at Loka Priya Goith Bordoloi Intertiol Airport this morning and presented him with traditiol Assamese Gamocha and Sarai.

Deputy Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly Dilip Kumar Paul, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, PWD Minister Parimal Suklabaidya, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Rihon Daimary, Irrigation Minister Ranjit Dutta, Chief Secretary VK Pipersenia, Director General of Assam Police Mukesh Sahay and several other senior civil and police administration officers were present at the farewell programme.

Meanwhile, Governor Purohit has thanked the people Assam for their all-out cooperation that he received during his tenure in Assam.  During his tenure, the Governor travelled length and breadth of the State and moved by the amiable ture of the people of Assam, the Governor commented.

In a message today before departing for Tamil du, Governor Purohit said, “I am moved by the affable ture of the people of Assam who gave me all support and love to be in the gubertorial position of the state and work for development of Assam”.  He also conveyed his gratitude to the political parties, organisations, educatiol institutions and people at large to work to contribute to the growth of Assam which is full potentialities and possibilities.
