GUWAHATI, Oct 2: For the first time today Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal and his predecessor Tarun Gogoi were seen to have shared the same dais, thanks to Mahatma Gandhi whose birth anniversary programme brought them together.

Gandhi Mandap in the city was agog with programmes related to Gandhi Jayanti today. Both the State Government and the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) had programmes at Gandhi Mandap today. What is significant is that former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi was also an invitee to the government programme at the Mandap.

However, after the government programme the former Chief Minister was seen in his real self when he was talking to newsmen. He was very vocal against the BJP-led government in the State and its policies. "BJP's ideology is nowhere near that of Gandhiji. They've failed in every aspect," he said.

At the APCC's programme on Gandhi Jayanti, also at Gandhi Mandap, State PCC president Ripun Bora said: "We're inspired by the ideology of Gandhiji. Going against the ideology of Gandhiji, the BJP is trying to create a divide in society, leading to intolerance in society."

Bora said that from today, the APCC started its public relations programmer to ask people as to that they got from the BJP government. The APCC also took out a procession in the city on Gandhi Jayanti today.

Meanwhile, the Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress (APMC), the women wing of the APCC, also observed Gandhi Jayanti in a city school today.
