Sonowal greets Thongchi

GUWAHATI, June 15: Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal congratulated eminent writer Yeshe Dorjee Thongchi on being med for the prestigious Sarhad’s 5th Bhupen Hazarika tiol Award-2017. Chief Minister Sonowal congratulated him over phone for the award and wished him all success in his future endeavours.

With an aim at creating a strong bond between Maharashtra and the Northeast, Sarhad has been presenting Bhupen Hazarika Award since 2012. The organization conferred the award on persolities like film-maker Jahnu Barua, professor Ratan Thiyam, senior jourlist Samudra Gupta Kashyap and singer and musician Lou Majaw.

Hailing Sarhad for choosing Yeshe Dorjee Thongchi of Aruchal Pradesh for the award, Sonowal said that giving the award to Dorjee is an honour conferred on a person who has written about a dozen novels and numerous short stories and plays all in Assamese, a language over which he has a wonderful command.

Sonowal also thanked Sarhad and expressed his gratitude for instituting the award after the doyen of Assam and honour the persons having extra-ordiry contributions to the society.
