Sonowal iugurates State's first Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra

GUWAHATI, Oct 7: Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal today iugurated the State’s first Model Skill Development Centre – Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra (PMKK) – at Panjabari, Guwahati in a bid to transform the skill landscape of the State.

It is an initiative of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and tiol Skill Development Corporation. The Centre will give training to the unemployed youths in 13 job roles.

Speaking on the occasion, Sonowal said, “Of the total population of Assam, youths constitute 65 per cent and the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendras will help in transforming the skill landscape by roping in youth power for the development of Assam”.  He said that Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Yoja envisages to cover every district, subdivision and even the block to change the skill landscape of the State in the coming days.

Sonowal said, “One of the objectives of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Yoja is to make India unique and great and transform the country into global skill capital of the world. We want to export human-resources by harnessing our youth forces by the right mix of dedication and sincerity with science and technology”. Sonowal also said, “Our Government will make North East as an organic hub of the Region and we will set up small scale industries in the State in a move to tap the possibilities, potentialities and prosperities of Assam in sync with the ture. Skill Development Programme will take us to achieve the full potential of the State and reap the demographic dividends of Assam”.

 Sonowal also advocated for a synergistic approach between the government and corporate houses wherein ‘government will provide skill development training to the youths and the corporate houses will absorb them in various vocations’.

State Agriculture Minister Atul Bora also spoke on the occasion. It may be mentioned that by the end of this December 6 more Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendras will be set up in Darrang, Morigaon, gaon, Baksa, Chirang and Kamrup. The Skill Development Centre at the Organic Hub at Panjabari spread across an area of 12,000 feet where youths will be trained at different sectors.

CEO of Assam State Agriculture Marketing Board PN Das, Director of Orion Edutech and a host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
