Sonowal launches 'Swachhta Hi Sewa'

GUWAHATI, Sept 18: Urging the youth of the State to take cleanliness as an integral part of their lives, Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal on Sunday said that only clean thoughts can result in clean deeds. He was speaking on the occasion of launching ceremony of Swacchta hi Seva (Cleanliness is Service) campaign in the State at Geeta Mandir in the city. The function was organized by the Union Ministry of Tourism, in association with Assam Tourism.   Saying that if one’s surroundings are not clean than one cannot live a disease-free life and terming cleanliness as next to godliness, Sonowal urged the young generation of the state to commit themselves to the cause of protecting the environment and practice cleanliness in their day to day lives.

Sonowal hoped the launching of Swachhta hi Seva programme in the state on Prime Minister’s birthday on Sunday would serve as a fitting tribute to the selfless service provided by the Prime Minister to the tion through his untiring efforts.  The Chief Minister called on Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) to repair and renovate the Geeta Mandir premises at an early date and turn it into a place of attraction and spiritual centre for the tourists. He also planted a tree sapling within the Geeta Mandir campus and took part in the cleanliness drive there.
