BY OUR STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Aug 11: Chief Minister Saranda Sonowal who met office bearers of Post Graduate Students’ Union at Dispur today discussed several issues concerning the varsity and the future plan to address them.

Talking to the student leaders led by PGSU general secretary of Post Graduate Students’ Union Pik Kaushik Borah on various issues faced by the students in the university, Sonowal asked them to focus on empowering students and not just on student union alone.

While discussing the issues, the student leaders submitted a five-point charter of demands to the Chief Minister. The demands dealt primarily on erecting boundary walls thereby making the university into a closed campus one, establishing a flood research centre in Gauhati University, landscaping and establishing pre-examition training centres in all affiliated colleges of Gauhati University and upgrading the University Law College.

Chief Minister Sonowal assured the student leaders that the government will take appropriate steps in addressing their demands. He also asked them to contribute to the Government’s efforts of transforming Gauhati University into a centre of excellence.
