Sonowal to attend India-ASEAN Dialogue

GUWAHATI, July 3: Responding to an invitation from Union Exterl Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal will take part in the iugural Ministerial Session of Delhi Dialogue IX, being organized by the Government of India in New Delhi from July 4-5, 2017.

The Delhi Dialogue is a premier annual intertiol conference bringing together ministers, senior officials, opinion makers, business leaders, eminent persons and academicians to brainstorm on strengthening the ASEAN-India Strategic Partnership.

Stating this in an official release, Sonowal said, “The Delhi Dialogue has over the years become a useful forum for discussion on regiol cooperation, especially in the light of our Act East Policy, in which the North Eastern States are a tural partner”.

Sonowal further expressed the view that Delhi Dialogue would boost state Government’s efforts to bring Assam to the forefront of the country’s growth trajectory and open floodgates of opportunities to emerge as the gateway to the South East Asian tions.

The 9th edition of Delhi Dialogue being the 25th anniversary of India-ASEAN dialogue relations will bear the overall theme of ‘India and ASEAN: Charting the Course for the next 25 years’.

The Delhi Dialogue IX will have panel discussions covering the three pillars of ASEAN-India relations spanning politico-security, economic and socio-cultural aspects. The countries which will participate in the conference include Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Vietm, Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia.
