Sonowal unveils statue of Mahatma Gandhi
GUWAHATI, Oct 6: Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal on Friday unveiled the life-sized statue of Mahatma Gandhi on the premises of Assam Khadi and Gramodyog Board at Chandmari, Guwahati.
Speaking on the occasion, Sonowal said that State Government would henceforth use cloth of Assam Khadi and Gramodyog Board in all the government offices and establishments to add dymism to the Board. He also asked the Board to carry out a survey to assess the demand of khadi in the state. He also asked the Board to set up outlets in all the 97 towns of Assam to help the people buy Khadi clothes, besides making the khadi clothes attractive with latest and innovative designs. Terming Gandhiji as a world leader, Sonowal said that to materialize Gandhiji’s dream of Ram Rajya, rural economy has to be strengthened.
Laying emphasis on peace, harmony and brotherhood, Prime Minister rendra Modi vowed to lay the foundation of a potent and strong India based on the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi, Sonowal said. He urged the employees of Khadi and Gramodyog Board to be led by the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi and work to expedite its growth. Chairman of the Board Kamala Kalita, Legal Advisor to Chief Minister Shantanu Bharali, commissioner and secretary to Handloom and Textile Mukti Gogoi, CEO of the Board Kabita Deka and a host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
