By our Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, July 28: State Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has assured the Educatiol Volunteer Association of Assam (EVAA) members that the department is going to conduct a special TET for them. The special training centres were set-up in 2011 under Sarba Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) for primary and high school dropouts in rural and char areas. Its objective was to prepare children from the age group of 7 to 18 years for their admission in mainstream schools. The Educatiol Volunteers were initially recruited in these centres for eleven months. Later on, though the service periods were extended for EVs, the closure of 95 per cent of such centres started in 2013-14 as most of such students had been absorbed in mainstream schools. EVAA maintains that EVs have been working at a nomil remuneration of Rs 3,000 a month for 11 months a year. Since then the Association has been reiterating its demand to the State Government and the Education Department for permanent their recruitment.
