Spiritual flavour to GIFF opening

GUWAHATI, Oct 28: Auspicious blowing of conch shells, staccato of percussion instruments like drums and oompah of brass cymbals marked the iuguration of the first-ever Guwahati Intertiol Film Festival (GIFF) at Srimanta Sankadev Intertiol Auditorium at Kalakshetra in Guwahati on Saturday, amidst the presence of a galaxy of stars from the world over.
Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal, along with chief guest and film-maker Shaji N Karun, lighted the ceremonial flame marking the opening of the festival. The iuguration got a spiritual flavour when singer Tarali Sarmah sang a number from Sri Sri Madhaddev’s am Gosha. 
As many as 78 tiol and intertiol films from 35 countries are there. Screening of the films has been underway at Kalakshetra and Jyoti Chitraban in the city. A galaxy of actors, directors, producers and others from elsewhere in the tion and abroad flocked the city. Iran Ambassador to India Gholamreza Ansari, programme curator Srinivasa Santham, State Cultural Affairs Minister ba Doley, Chief Secretary VK Pepersenia, Spain actor David Kanouba and others were also present at the opening ceremony. It being an intertiol film festival, the team of technicians is of UFO.             Speaking on the occasion, Czech Republic Ambassador to India Milan HOVORKA said: “I’m glad to be here in Guwahati. Cinema is very important nowadays. That Guwahati has organized such a festival and invited me to be here is a matter of honour. I’ll try my best to come with more Iranian films to India next year. Similar efforts should also be made by Indian film-makers to go to Iran with their films as that will certainly strengthen friendship between the two countries.”
