Sports organizer's last wishes fulfilled, body doted

GUWAHATI, Dec 30: Noted sports organizer Manindra Gogoi had his last wishes fulfilled when his eyes were doted to Sankardeva Nethralaya in the city yesterday and the body to the Atomy Department of Guahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) today. Gogoi passed away at his residence near Gauhati Club yesterday. His wife Sumitra Hazarika is a leader of the Assam Agitation.

According to Elora Vigyan Mancha general secretary Dr. Joydev Sarma, Gogoi, despite being a ‘shmashan bandhu’ of bagrahan Crematorium, and his wife doted their bodies for the development of medical research on May 15 this year through Elora Vigyan Mancha.

The body was doted to the Atomy Department of the GMCH at simple function in the presence of Department head Dr. Hemanta Bayan, Prof. Dr. Kunjalal Talukdar, Isfakur Rahman of Elora Vigyan Mancha and others. Son of freedom fighter Padmachandra Gogoi, Manindra Gogoi was a swimmer and weight lifter. Elora Vigyan Mancha condoled the death of Gogoi. They conveyed their heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family members.
