SPOs to meet PM if police stop them from meeting CM

GUWAHATI, July 17: The Special Police Officers’ Welfare Society (SPOWS) is fed up with the old chestnut from the top officials in the State Home Department – ‘the process is underway and there’ll be appointment’.

Fed up with this chestnut from the State Home Department, the SPOs huddled together at Dighalipukhuripar in the city on Monday and raised their voice for their appointment in the proposed Assam Industrial Security Force (AISF).

SPOWS secretary Mrityunjay Bora said: “On September 19, 2013 we did march to Dispur from Dima Hasao. The then Home Secretary, ADGP, Haflong SP, Karbi Anglong SP and gaon SP stopped us from going ahead with our march and assured us of appointment in the third AISF Battalion in 2015. That was a conspiracy. On June 6, 2015 the department took back all the arms given to us and relieved us from our jobs. On June 7, 2015 we did stage a dhar in Guwahati along with our family members. The department slapped fake cases against 44 of us and sent 26 of them to the jail. Our demand for appointment in the AISF still stands.”

Bora said: “We’re not going to hand over our memorandum to any of the bureaucrats. We’re ready to hand it over if the Chief Minister himself comes. We did meet the Chief Minister six times by now. If the police impede us in our move, we’re ready to march by bicycles to Delhi seeking intervention of the Prime Minister into our cause.”
