SPWOS stir from January 29

GUWAHATI, Jan 20: The Special Police Officers’ Welfare Society (SPWOS) is set to go for another bout of agitation from January 29 to February 1, 2018 in protest against Dispur failure to absorb them in the Assam Industrial Security Force (AISF).

On January 29 they are going to stage a dhar at Dispur Last Gate, stage dhar in front of the Assam Police Headquarters at Ulubari in the city on January 30, in front of Chief Minister’s residence on January 31 and stage dhar topless at Dispur Last on February 1, 2018.

Talking to newsmen in Guwahati on Sunday, SPWOS president Dilip Saikia said: “In December 2017 there was an advertisement for the filling up of vacancies in the AISF. It was mentioned in the advertisement that only candidates who had appointment letters as special police officers (SPOs) can apply for the post. In all we’ve 850 SPOs. However, of them only around 300 mes figured in the selection list. No SPO was selected from gaon, Morigaon, Kamrup and Kamrup(M), lbari, Barpeta, Dhubri and Kokrajhar.”
