SSSSA seeks constitutiol safeguard for indigenous communities

GUWAHATI, Sept 19:  Sangbidhanik Suraksha Sangram Samiti, Assam (SSSSA) has opposed granting citizenship to the Hindu Bangladeshis prior to granting ST status to six communities of the State.

The organization has also demanded Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state to 'protect' local communities in wake of infiltration from other states.

SSSSA president Bireshwar Saikia, who is also the general secretary of All Assam Koch Rajbongshi Sanmilan (AAKRS) in a statement, said that the SSSSA, an umbrella origition of more than 12 bodies including AASU, AJYCP, ATASU, AKRSU, in a meeting held in Guwahati recently has decided to oppose the government's move granting citizenship to Hindu Bangladeshis. The meeting was presided over by former MLA Durlabh Samua. The SSSSA has also opposed river linking and privatization of the oilfields of the state.

"Insured of going ahead with the river linking project, the government should take steps for developing Multipurpose Hydroelectric Project," he said.
