State level debate competition held

GUWAHATI, Sept 10: The Gauhati Commerce College (GCC) organized the Dr Birinchi Kumar Baruah Memorial All Assam Inter College Debate Competition at the BC Lahkar auditorium of the college today following the Foundation Day celebration of the college.

The iugural speech was delivered by GCC Principal Dr Homeswar Kalita. The topic of the debate was “An updated NRC is not the only way to safeguard the future of Assam” and 45 participants from all over Assam joined the debate from 23 colleges of the state. The former Principal of Cotton College Dilip Kumar Baruah officiated as the Speaker in the debate and it was adjudged by Dean of Commerce Gauhati University Bhaskar Jyoti Borah, Diganta Biswa Sarma and Shyamkanu Mahanta.

The first prize was bagged by Saurav Jyoti Talukdar of the College of Veteriry Sciences, the second prize was given to Kuldeep Soren of B.Borooah College and Samujwal Dutta of Assam Academy of Media Studies the third prize was handed to Nirmalendu Chakraborty of Hojai College and Sharmistha Bhattacharyya of Gauhati Commerce College. Each carry a cash prize of Rs 7000, Rs 6000 and Rs 4000 respectively. The team of Assam Academy of Media Studies got the best team and College of Veteriry Sciences was adjudged to the Runners-up team.
