State to observe Martyrs’ Day on January 30

GUWAHATI, January 28: In memory of the death of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi and those who had sacrificed their lives in the struggle for the country’s freedom, the Assam Government will observe the Martyrs’ Day with two–minute silence along with complete halt to vehicular movement on January 30 at 11 am.

All the deputy commissioners and sub–divisiol officers have been directed to observe the day in their respective districts and sub–divisiol headquarters. The state government have also directed all district administrations to take necessary steps to ensure that the Martyrs’ Day is observed by all with due solemnity and public participation.

It is desired that people gather and stand up in observing the silence after due siren is given wherever feasible.  Public participation is solicited and all educatiol institutions and public sector enterprises should actively participate in a befitting way. Speeches and talks on significance of the day, role of freedom fighters, and moral duty of citizens along with historical significance of India’s freedom struggle are to be delivered, besides holding of cultural programmes, films and documentaries bearing the theme of India’s freedom struggle, etc.
