Step to preserve historical landscapes in city

GUWAHATI, March 18: Kamrup Metropolitan District Administration will form a society to identify and preserve unidentified cultural or historical landscape in the city. The committee will also identify historically significant monuments, antique items etc., within Greater Guwahati.
The Greater Guwahati area is dotted with a good number of historical sites, monuments of religious and cultural significance, heritage landscape, items of antique value and historical importance, etc. However, unfortutely no systematic scientific attempt has been made to identify and preserve them. District administration intends to form a Registry to list all these structures. The Society will also undertake various heritage-related capacity building programmes for the residents, school children and others. The district administration intends to involve various stakeholders like NGOs, government departments, educatiol institutions etc., for this exercise.
