GUWAHATI, Aug 5: The Axom Rajyik Prathamik Shikshak Sanmiloni on Saturday took to the streets demanding cancellation of the New Pension Scheme and restoration of the old one, besides permanent appointment to the contractual teachers.

The Sanmilani carried out a demonstration at Dighalipukhuripar in the city, demanding job regularization of working teachers and equal pay for equal work. Besides, it also demanded grade pay for principals and degree teachers and to constitute a State Education Commission.

Commenting on the pension scheme for teachers, the secretary general of the Sanmiloni, Ratul Chandra Goswami, said, “We won’t accept the new pension scheme which doesn’t provide security and gratuity benefits to teachers. The scheme has not been designed for the welfare of the teachers.”

Goswami further stated that the indifference attitude of the Central and state governments had compelled to carry out such demonstrations by the teachers’ associations across the State.
