Stir threat by GP presidents

By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Dec 27: The All Assam Gaon Panchayat President Coordition Committee (AAGPPCC) has raised the demand for regular payment of their remuneration.

Talking to newsmen in the city today, AAGPPCC president Durgeswar Mali and chief convener Hemchandra Baruah said: “The GP presidents have been rendering services but they’re not getting their remuneration regularly. Of late, at a meeting in the city recently the government assured them of paying their remuneration. That assurance is still to be met. The GP presidents should also be paid salary, bonus, pension and allowances like other employees of the government. The P & RD Department notification issued by the State Governor recently should be published in gazette notification. Rs 10 lakh as emergency fund should be paid to each and every panchayat in the State annually. If these demands are not met, we’ll resort to a sit-in strike in front of all DC offices in the State on January 20, 2017.”
