GUWAHATI, April, 27: Two road transport workers' associations of the country are going to observe strike and chakka bandh on April 30, 2015 for 24 hours against the move for Road Transport and Safety (RTS) Bill, 2014 (IV Version).
The state committees of these unions and other eight motor vehicle unions have also joined them in the strike, which would be observed in all the districts and three chief places of the city such as Beltola Chariali, Jalukbari and Noonmati. This was stated by executive president of protest committee, Hareshwar Das, in a press conference held at Guwahati Press Club today. Das said, "The Modi government has put draft of RTS Bill in public domain without assessing the ground realities prevailing in India. In the me of road safety, the intention of the Bharatiya Jata Party (BJP) Government is to take over the entire transport sector under the Union government and to privatize the entire system by handling it over to the corporate sector." Along with that, the All Assam Motor Workers' Joint Council (AAMWJC) is also going to observe 'chakka bandh' for 24 hours on May 1, 2015 and observe May Day in the state.
