Strom lashes city, causes damage

GUWAHATI, April 29: A storm with heavy rains lashed Guwahati yesterday. A number of localities in the city like Jalukbari, Garal, Dharapur Chariali, Boragaon, Lokhra, Betkuchi, Lalmati, Basistha, Maligaon, Uzan Bazar, Kharguli, Latasil, Fancy Bazar etc., have been affected. Besides damaging over 100 residential houses in the city, a large number of tress and electric posts were uprooted. While the roof of Khamukh Prathamik Vidyalaya at Khamukh has been blown away by the storm, a mini truck parked at Jalukbari has been damaged as a tree fell on it.
Officials from the district administration, GMC, SDRF, Forest Department, power supply utility like APDCL are working to restore normalcy. Circle officers have been asked to assess the damage and report for compensation and rehabilitation.
