Students' cry falls on Dispur's deaf ears, now conscious Amri Karbis take up issue

GUWAHATI, August 17: With the cry of the Amri Karbi Students’ Union (AKMU) and Karbi Students’ Association (KSA) Kamrup and other Amri Karbi bodies going unheard, now the conscious Amri Karbi citizens have raised, what they said, the swindling of Rs 14.20 crore Amri Karbi Development Council (AKDC) funds meant for fiscals 2013-14 and 2014-15.

Talking to newsmen on behalf of conscious Amri Karbi citizens in the city today, Rameswar Ronghang said: “Rs 14.20 crore was released by Dispur for AKDC in fiscals 2013-14 and 2014-15 against various development schemes and programmes. A four-member core committee with Council secretary Ranumai Terangpi as the president was formed for the implementation of the schemes and programmes. The other members of the committee were Council chairman Indreswar Teron, Anil Teron and Padum Ingti. However, the term of the Council expired on January 1, 2016 without fully implementing any of the schemes. We want to know as to why most of the schemes remained incomplete and the target beneficiaries deprived of their benefits? We had a meeting with the core committee of the Parishad on January 7, 2016 on the implementation of the scheme. Core committee president Ranumai Terangpi said that the funds meant for the schemes and programmes were with her and that she would distribute the funds without delay. If she had the funds with her, what could be the reasons behind not implementing the schemes and distributing the funds to the target beneficiaries? We smell a rat that the entire amount has been swindled. If the Parishad doesn’t distribute the fund among the target beneficiaries and implement the schemes by August, we’ll be compelled to drag it to the court. Terangpi was a Congress member, but with the change of guards at Dispur, she has joined the BJP.”

On June 18, 2016 WPT & BC Director did ask AKDC chairman Indreswar Teron to conduct a field verification of the implementation of various development schemes and programmes. The Chairman was also asked to execute the schemes within a month, but nothing tangible has been done as yet.
