Sumitra Pater joins BJP, APCC says good riddance

GUWAHATI, April 7: “Good riddance to her hanger-on,” the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has said while reacting to its former Dhemaji MLA Sumitra Pater joining the BJP. Pater joined the BJP today.
In a statement issued to the press today, APCC senior spokesperson Apurba Bhattacharya said: “Pater fought the last Assembly election from Dhemaji on a Congress ticket. She was defeated by the BJP candidate. In the last bye-poll to the Lakhimpur Lok Sabha constituency, she was a hanger-on. She campaigned in a clandestine manner for the BJP candidate. Her only claim to fame is that she was a Congress MLA. The Congress has given her enough, but what has she given to the party? Her joining the BJP won’t have any impact on the Congress. Rather it will benefit us. Good riddance!” On Dhemaji bye-poll, the APCC said: “the BJP has lost the ground under its feet, and that has led the party to throw its full weight behind the party candidate for Dhemaji bye-poll. Even the Chief Minister is addressing election rallies in rural areas. Apart from its money power, the ruling party has engaged the administrative machinery for electioneering. However, the voters in the LAC are ready to teach the BJP a lesson.”
