Suspension sans probe a travesty: ASEB engineers

GUWAHATI, Oct 18: The Association of Engineers, ASEB has described the suspension of two top ASEB officers for interruption of power supply during a meeting of the Chief Minister in gaon Circuit House recently as a travesty.

Reacting strongly to the State Government’s decision to suspend two top ASEB officers without any investigation to ascertain the reason behind the power failure, the Association of Engineers said: “Such an action on the part of the government will only demoralize those working sincerely in the ASEB. Any suspension without investigation isn’t just.”

According to the Association, the disruption of power for a few minutes when the Chief Minister was at a meeting at gon Circuit House recently was following a technical sg. “Such uvoidable technical sgs are beyond the control of any AESB officers. A high-voltage jerk in the transmission line from Samaguri to gaon led to power-cut for a few minutes,” the Association said, and added: “There are allegations that there were such power-cuts in Chief Minister’s meetings earlier also. All those power-cuts were also because of such technical sgs.”

The Association further said that a prelimiry investigation into the power failure during the Chief Minister’s meeting found that the gaon Circuit House had no standby power supply device like a generator in working condition. “For such VIP meetings, the electrical wing of the PWD should install standby power supply devices in government buildings like circuit houses,” the Association said, and added: “We condemn the unjustified action on the part of the State Government and express resentment over the government overlooking the failure on the part of gaon district administration.”

According to the Association, AEGCL and APDCL look after transmission and distribution of power in the ASEB. “They should go for modernization and renovation of transmission and distribution lines so as to ensure uninterrupted power supply,” the Association said.
